Woman sentenced to 35 years in child's car death

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A judge has ordered a Louisville woman to prison for 35 years in the death of her 2-year-old son, who was left inside a sweltering car for nearly 12 hours.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/Q0Eaa7 ) reports that according to KidsAndCars.org, the sentence for Mollie Shouse is believed to be one of the longest in the country for such a case.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Olu Stevens told Shouse at the sentencing Wednesday that she had to take responsibility for the death of Kenton Brown on May 21, 2011. Shouse's lawyer and mother pleaded for a more lenient sentence. She will be eligible for parole in 20 years.

Shouse was convicted last month of wanton murder after leaving Kenton to die in her car while she was passed out on drugs.

Her lawyer said an appeal was planned.
