Woman stabbed multiple times in violent assault

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) -- A man is arrested, after police say he stabbed a woman sixteen times, then ran from the scene.

Williamsburg city police tell us their K-9 tracked the suspect, Anthony Spicer, 30, down early this morning.

Sunday afternoon spicer talked to our cameras from jail, and says he wants to apologize to his girlfriend.

"Love makes people do crazy things.".

That's why thirty-year-old, Anthony Spicer says he is now in the Whitley County Detention Center.

"There was just a fight," said Spicer. "We had a pretty bad altercation, that's all I can tell you."

Williamsburg police say Spicer stabbed his girlfriend multiple times with a knife on a neighbors front lawn, prompting her to call for help.

"According to the witness, it was a pretty violent assault with a knife. The witness observed it, came outside and actually tried to assist the female victim. She observed the male with a knife, stabbing the female," said chief Wayne Bird.

Spicer took off before police arrived and his girlfriend, Ashley Warren, 32, was left in the yard.

"She was unresponsive. She was treated by local paramedics and then she was air evaced to the hospital. She went through three or four hours of surgery and it is my understanding she is at ICU in critical condition," said Bird.

Four hours passed by before canines found Spicer in a friend's basement. He's facing intent to commit murder and resisting arrest.

"I'd like to tell her I am sorry and I love her with all my heart," said Spicer.

Spicer isn't saying much to police, but he tells us he lost control after she told him some news he didn't want to hear.

"I found out my wife was cheating on me. I kind of snapped," said Spicer.

Police say the fire department was called to the victim's home before the stabbing because her home was on fire.
