LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) – A car went airborne and landed in a field after a crash in Lexington.
Police tell WKYT that a woman was driving on Iron Works Pike Thursday afternoon, at Georgetown Road, when she hit an embankment. Police tell us her car went airborne, landed in a field and may have rolled. The impact of the crash threw the engine block from the vehicle.
"Certainly by the footage you all have from the scene, it was a very dynamic collision," said Lt. Chris Young with the Lexington Police Department.
Firefighters had to cut open the wreckage to free the woman. We are told her injuries are non-life threatening.
Police say air bags likely saved the woman's life.
"When she left, she was responsive and was talking to the paramedics as they were putting her in the ambulance," said Lt. Young.
The crash happened in a construction zone. Crews are paving the road.
