LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman who admitted to running over and killing her goddaughter will spend two years in prison.

In March Julie Reese pleaded guilty to reckless homicide.

WKYT is told Reese was driving her mini van in June 2011 at Lexington's Constitution Park, when she backed up and hit 12-year-old Sierra Hubbard, who died of blunt force trauma at UK Hospital.

Police said Reese tested positive for drugs at the time.

The Commonwealth claimed it was not an accident and recommended Reese spend two-years in prison. Today, Fayette Circuit Judge Kim Bunnell agreed, and sentenced Reese to two-years in prison.

"I never meant for this to happen," Reese told the courtroom. "If I could, I would take her place."

Sierra's mother, Tammy Hubbard, sat in the front row during the sentencing.

"I'm glad the judge issued the sentence she did, so Julie pays for what she did," Hubbard said.

Hubbard says she doesn't believe Reese's claim it was an accident.

"I don't know how you could accidentally run over someone who you're supposed to be taking care of."

Members of Reese's family were also in the courtroom today. Her husband, Mark Reese, says he supports his wife and her story.

"I admit my wife had a problem with marijuana," he said. "But smoking a joint at 4:30 that afternoon and having a wreck at 9:30 driving 5mph, did not cause this child's death."

He vow's to fight the sentence and says he will push for shock probation.

Before Reese was taken into custody, the Commonwealth stated they will decline any request by Reese or her attorney for probation.

Sierra Hubbard would have began her 8th grade year at Leestown Middle School next week.
