LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A mother trying to do some grocery shopping became a robbery victim on Wednesday when two people ran off with her purse.

But she was able to fight back with a little with a little help.

The victim tells us the robbers snatched her purse outside the Kroger on Alexandria Drive in Lexington.

Tabitha Stevens does most of her grocery shopping at that Kroger but when on Wednesday, the unexpected happen during her routine trip to the store.

“I felt somebody take my purse and thought it was a joke and I turned around to see who is was and there was a young man running with my purse across the parking lot,” Stevens said.

Stevens says her gut instinct was to take off after him.

“I started running after him and started screaming and running for help. I chased him all the way to the bushes over there.”

But with her 6-year-old daughter waiting in the car, Stevens couldn't run too far.

It wasn’t long before two by-standers decided to take matters into their own hands.

“Two guys that I don’t know actually took off in their cars and chased him. Apparently he had an accomplice that took off this way and they arrested him but they did not find the man who stole my purse.”

Although Stevens wasn't hurt in the incident, she's still in shock that someone stole from her in front of her daughter for a quick buck.

“It was extremely traumatic. Nothing like this has ever happened to me.”

Stevens said after Wednesday’s incident, she won't be doing any grocery shopping alone for a while.
