Youth rally on eve of VP debate

DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - College students aren't the only ones getting a taste of politics during the lead up to the debate.

It's also become a learning experience for children and teens in the area.

This afternoon, many of them attended a rally where they hoped to send a message to the vice presidential hopefuls.

Secretary of state Allison Lundergran grimes was on hand for the step up for kids youth rally this afternoon.

The event was organized by students at both Danville high school and Boyle county.

For many of these youngsters this is their first real taste of politics and that's the goal for organizers.

"The goal is to bring youth issues to life to bring awareness to all the problems kids face today. We are hoping we can get some politicians to come support us and vote to support youth," Dakota Jarman, the student rally organizer said.

Secretary of state shared her passion for the political process with the students.

She urged the students to be excited about being in the middle of history as it happens.

The event also included performances from several youth performers, the high school jazz band, middle school choir and dance team.
