Millions go unclaimed in Kentucky Lottery

Updated: 01/28/2011 - Every year, millions of dollars worth of Kentucky lottery winnings go unclaimed. According to the Kentucky Lottery's records, the sum of the unclaimed winnings averages 8-10 million dollars a year. In 2010, that number jumped up to 13.6 million dollars. A spokesperson for the Kentucky Lottery says the majority of the tickets that go unclaimed are scratch-off tickets worth between 2 to 5 dollars. There are, however, three high dollar winners currently unclaimed, including a $52,000 Win For Life ticket which was sold at the Speedway on Southland Drive in Lexington.
