my family and i became acquainted with bill keightley in 1978 the year uk won the nat'l championship. we went to japan with the team. we experienced an earthquake during this trip and i ran down 25 flights of stairs along with my three daughters, needless to say bill never forgot that i, was the derby winner of that event. i spoke with him last summer at basketball camp i said do remember me he said i sure do you are the lady that ran down all those stairs in japan. he was great man well loved by all who knew him.

I can remember since I was a little kid, which wasn't too long ago watching Kentucky basketball and watching Bill Keightley, and now sixteen years later, it wont be the same, the heart of Kentucky basketball, the only man in Kentucky basketball with six NCAA Championship rings and I'm sure he loved every single one of them, you will be missed Mr. Keightley, the big blue nation has lost one of the best

My best friend and I went to a Tennessee vs Kentucky game at Rupp Arena a few years ago, and after the game, we wanted to meet Tommy Lasorda, who was a guest of Tubby Smith, he personally took us to meet him and have him sign our #3 signs and our tickets. It was a pleasure we'll never forget!

I never personally met the man, yet I still could not choke back the tears when I heard that he had passed away. Mr. Wildcat, you are icon. Right up there with Cawood and the Unforgettables. My prayers and condolences to your family.

Mr Wildcat, The name itself explains so much. When i sit down and get fired up about a Cats game the first thing i do as soon as the tip goes up and we make our way down the court is glance over to the bench not to see what coach is doing but to make sure BILL KEIGHTLEY Mr. Wildcat is sitting front and center in the first seat on the bench and if he isn't something badly has went wrong and now something has went badly wrong......You will be missed dearly.........Go Blue

I'm sure Mr. Keightly will still be right there for every one of UK's basketball games, still dressed in blue, with a seat better than courtside.

Kentucky basketball will never be the same!!!!! I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Wildcat, however I felt like I had known him all my life. I have been a UK fan for as long as I can remember and I can always remember seeing his smiling face on the sideline. There is no doubt that he was a special man. Espically when a person feels this saddened by the death of a man that I had never meet. He will be greatly missed. I will think of him every game that I watch from now on. His chair should remain on empty on the sideline forever. UK basketball will always have a void that will never be filled.

It will be hard to look for MR WILDCAT and not be able to see him walk to the bench before the game. I always looked for him and once I found him it always seemed it was ok for the game to begin. I did not know him personally, but the love he had for the players and coach of his beloved Kentucky Wildcats eminated from him. What a beautiful memorial service for him and we must find a way to keep his love and legacy alive. Hazel and Karen may God Bless you and give you peace as no one else can. I am sure you both have many wonderful memories of this wonderful man, lean on the Lord, and remember, remember, remember.

I always thought Mr. Keightly was our coach all these years and the other "coaches" were the assistants! What an amazing man, please leave his seat empty from now on, because it definitely can never be filled. We love you Mr. Wildcat!

My wife and I were on a cruise down to Mexico when we heard the sad news. A fellow Kentuckian had just seen the posting on the internet and informed us. Everyone that heard the news felt a great loss. He seemed like a family member to all. To his family, you will be in our prayers and even though he will not be on the bench in person next season, he will be there in spirit and in the hearts of all Kentuckians.

Even though I did not know Mr. Wildcat personally, I felt as if I did by seeing him at every ballgame UK played. I will miss him not being on the bench with all the players when the season starts. He will be missed by all UK fans and my sympathy goes out to his family and all of his friends and I know everyone in Ky were considered his friends. May God Bless and take care of him now, for he is watching us from up above.

Hazel & Karen, To say that we share your loss is an understatement. Bill's loving character transcended description. He made so many feel part of the WildKat family. Every time my daughter & I visited from California, Bill always made us feel like we'd never left our beloved Bluegrass. Know that our hearts are heavy with grief, but that we know that Bill will be with us forever. Love, Stan & Juliette Justice

I've heard several ideas of how UK can honor this man that has meant so much to the program. His passion for the team and especially the players is well known and for that reason, I think a fitting tribute would be to rename the Wildcat Lodge "Kieghtley Hall"

Mr. Keightley's family is in our thoughts and prayers. He was a wonderful representative from Anderson County, Lawrenceburg and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He will always be missed. We've lost another good one and there are no replacements. Rest in peace.

Ever since I started watching and attending UK basketball games, Mr. Keightley was always there. It'll seem strange next season not to see him sitting there enjoying the Wildcats like so many others. He will be greatly missed, but he'll be smiling on everyone from up above for many years to come.

Mr. Keightley was one of the most uplifting persons I have ever met, always positive. He and Cawood Ledford will never be replaced at the University of Kentucky. My codolences go out to Mr. Keightley's family.

A program of great success has been greatly affected in such a heart breaking way by the death of Bill Keightley, also known as "Mr. Wildcat." If the basketball program was a body, Mr. Wildcat would be the heart and soul. Without his dedication to his job and team, this program would not be the same; our sucess would not have been so bountiful. Thank you Mr. Wildcat. I will keep your family and friends in my prayers.

Mr. Bill was UK basketball. When the team takes the floor next October, there will be a huge void with the team. It is a whole lot easier to replace a 3 time all-american than a 48 time all-american. By seeing your empty chair next year, we can be reminded how you so unselfishly gave for so many years and perhaps we can learn a lesson from you. You will be greatly missed. God bless.......

Watching the basketball games are not going to be the same without MR. Wildcat there. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and so will his family... Now it is time for Mr. Keightley to rest, Rest Mr. Keightley you have worked soooo hard while you were here. God Bless You ALL!!!!

I will always use my nickname you gave me. :DOTTIEZ: and yes you made me feel special as you did everyone else. We had an Irish Celebration at Merrick in your honor last name. Nice turn out. You would have been proud. Oh how I will miss you.Your good friend Rick is taking it pretty bad, you left him with such a void a friend like you only comes along once in a life time. I'm very sad right now, when i found out Bill Keightley passed away, i was shocked. But there is one thing i want to tell Bill Keightley, he was one great LEADER in the game of basketball as a manager. Whenever i watched the games, he would always sit right beside of Coach Gillispie, every game. I pray that the family and the players, fans, and coaches, will have his spirit within them. I had a couple of tears come out of my eyes when i heard he passed away when i watched WKYT news first. It really saddened me. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bill and his family. God Bless Bill Keightley "Mr. Wildcat" for the memories he had given us.

I have always been a huge fan and admirer of Mr. Wildcat. I was setting at the State Tournament just a few rows behind of where himself, Coach Gillispie and several others were setting and talking. It was great to see him there and would love to hear all of the great stories that he has been apart of. I am a cousin of Landon Slone and just like him I am deeply saddened with Mr. Bill's passing and he will never be forgetten and loved by many.

Mr. Keightley is Kentucky Basketball. He is the type of person and had the type of life that everyone strives to have. He loved everyone that came into his presence and found a level of happiness that is unparalleled by any other. To be with a program for the amount of time that he was is hardly ever seen, and he wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Mr. Wildcat, Thank you for all you have done and I hope everyone can follow his example and look to love everyone no matter what.

A few seasons ago I had the opportunity to attend a basketball practice session at Memorial Coliseum compliments of Somerset Foods. After practice we were invited to the UK Basketball Musuem for snacks and pictures. While I was there I had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Keightley. I asked him several questions about the basketball program, Tubby Smith and former coaches. He without hesitation answered all my questions with smiles and signed a basketball for me. He made me feel like we had known each other for years. What a great loss we experienced this week in Mr. Keightley's passing. Thanks for the great memories. He was a genuine great person with a heart for the bluegrass.

I never met Mr. Wildcat, but I knew him through his years of faitfulness at UK. To have such passion for something like he did is a remarkable thing. He was the voice for the fans of the CATS and he will always have a special place in all Big Blue Faithful. That first seat on the bench will never ever be filled by another like him. He was such a joy to watch on TV and at Rupp Arena. To have an occupation that you gave your heart and soul for and worked hard at for many years, but still enjoying it like a ten year old boy in awe of meeting his favorite player. God must have needed help up there in Heaven, cause he got the best down here. God bless you Mr. Wildcat Bill Keightley, A True Friend, even for those that never met him. Go Big Blue!!

When I attended a game, I always Looked for Bill Keightley just as I looked for the coach & team members. He's always been sitting on the bench & it won't be the same next year. When I heard the terrible news of his death, I thought that he died as he would want to. He wouldn't have ever been satisfied sitting at home away from Ky sports & the games he enjoyed. He was going to a ballgame that he loved & God chose to take him home. We will all miss him.

Not only did Wildcat Nation lose a great man on Monday, all of humanity did. I say this because Mr. Keightley displayed the humane side that is so frequently lacking in our society. His soul was at its heart just plain good. That is a rarity indeed that will not easily be replaced. I never met you Mr. Keightley, but I feel like know you. What better compliment is that?

I have lived in Kentucky my whole like so of course I bleed blue. I have never met Bill Keightley but I fell like I have known him forever. My heart is filled with sadness for his wife and family. But at the same time it is also filled with joy. My own father is battling cancer. I didn't realize how many people in our town had such admiration and love for him until he got sick. I am so proud to listen to everyone talk about Mr. Wildcat and I feel like they are talking about my daddy. So I know that Mrs. Keightley at the same time her heart is breaking it is filled with such joy to know her husband has touched so many people in such a wonderful way. How blessed are we. Go Big Blue!

I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but to see him on the bench, speaking with others and sharing his memories was always a very special experience. Sincerely, Willie Begley

It will be hard to watch UK games next season without seeing Mr. Wildcat sitting in his chair. God bless the Keightley family. Just know Wildcat fans all over the nation are here for you.

My deepest sympathy to all of you at this time of loss. I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Keightley, but could certainly experience his warmth and sincerity from seeing him at the games. He was a wonderful ambassador for UK and someone who truly will not be able to be replaced. Coaches, players, and others come and go, but Mr. Wildcat is a "one and only". Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

Mr. Wildcat will truely be missed, as a die-hard Wildcat fan, I am deeply saddened by his passing. He is loved by all, as Wildcat fans, and we will miss him so much! He is a legend of UK in my eyes, as in all eyes who knew him or knew of him! May his legacy continue...

Thank you for sharing Mr. Keightly with all the wildcat fans. Some of those times he was with the team or the last person to close up I'm sure you would have liked to have him home! He was a valuable part of UK basketball! To be able to do something he loved doing right up until age 82 made him happy, I'm sure. When I heard him say he thanked the Lord he could have the good health to continue in a job he loved I knew he was a Christian. Isn't it wonderful to have the assurance that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." His jovial spirit is brightening heaven and he'll be waiting there for you! I'm sure counting the blessings of Mr. K's life will give you great comfort.

I have been a UK fan all of my life. I think it is wonderful that two non players symbolized what we all know as Kentucky basketball--Mr. Bill Keightley and Mr. Cawood Ledford. They are the epitome of what UK basketball is all about. I always listened to Cawood and turned down the sound if I was watching the game on TV. Mr. Keightly always had a smile for the crowd and was like seeing a family member show up at a reunion---he was always there. I am sure his name will be raised alongside the other greats in Rupp arena. He is certainly deserving of the honor. I know there are UK fans waiting for him and a big smile is on his face. That is how I will remember him. Thanks for all you have meant to UK, Mr. Keightly. We will miss you.

I had origionally had made a comment the the Kentucky Basketball Trinity had been completed. Adolph Rupp, Cawood Ledford, and Bill Keightley. There are many jersey's with some great names on them hanging in Rupp Arena. When they take down Mr. Keightley's jersey down, lets not date him with a number,(2008), but with the word "FOREVER". He went to many places in Kentucky giving speeches to many civic groups where he always made friends. When he met you, you had a friend forever. His smile was a symbol of his life. When opposiing fans come to Rupp Arena, and see the word "FOREVER" on Bill's jersey, all they will have to do is ask a U.K. fan, what's with the "FOREVER"

We became friends and he came to my house the day I got home from the hospital to see my new daughter. He held her and she smiled at him. Over the years when I would see Bill, he never forgot who I was and always asked about my daughter by name. She is now 23 years old. I will miss you Mr. Wildcat.

Bill Keightley was a single thread through which Kentucky Basketball history was woven. But more than that, he was a friend. I once asked him, why not write a book about all you have witnessed in Kentucky Basketball history? I explained, you know more about Kentucky Basketball than any other human being on earth, people would love to know what you have right inside your brain. He told me simply, "People trusted me with the truth. And for that, I will be forever faithful. I guess many of these things will simply die with me." I am forever smaller for the loss of Bill Keightley today. As a Kentucky Basketball fan, and as a human being. God, please let Bill Keightley rest in peace. We will forever mourn your loss as as just one of the finest human beings ever, as well as what you meant to our beloved Kentucky Wildcats.

I worked for a law firm in the Merrill-Lynch Building in the mid-80's and Mr. Keightley was our mailman. He was always so incredibly sweet and had a second to chat with you. I looked forward to seeing him each day because he'd tell a joke or have something funny to share from his day. At that time, I didn't recognize him as "Mr. Wildcat" but when I was a little older and I would see him at the UK games, my memories of him always came flying back in an instance and I would smile. He was just a truly good person. He will be missed. My prayers are with his wife and daughter because while Kentucky loved him as Mr. Wildcat, he was a husband and father first. I hope the love they feel from the people of the Commonwealth will help sustain them in the days ahead. God bless and God speed. Kelley Calk

First, To The Keightley Family my most sincere condolences! Mr. Wildcat always had a smile on his face at the games. I believe that Heaven just got a special Angel. I just picture it now. A very large Mansion in KY BLUE sitting on a hill. With Mr. Wildcat shaking and greeting the onlookers with open arms and that BIG SMILE!! Being in about 56% of all basketball games make him a special person!! I never met him in person, but just his out going presence at he games showed to me his caring for his fellowship with others!! Always putting them before himself. Ther are AWFUL BIG SHOES TO FILL. He will be MISSED very much indeed. From what I got in all the TV coverage, he cared for everyone met. To the Family " MR. BASKETBALL is physically gone but he is still in all of your and our memories. HIS EARTHLY BODY WILL REST IN PEACE BUT HIS HEAVENLY BODY WILL SHINE BRIGHT!!" We will miss you.

As i write this i sit here looking at two autographed basketballs on my mantle that are a direct result of Mr. Bills efforts. I was not a close friend of Bill Keightly's, only an aquaintance. But like every other person who was graced with this man's presence I came away richer for the experience. Bill was "everyman" and at the same time "one of a kind". Like Shawn Woods said, "he was the jolliest man to ever grace the earth. There have been many great individuals grace this earth and lend their uniquiness to this gift known as life. Just let it be known that when God made you Mr. Wildcat...He broke the mold. There will never be another like you. God Bless You and Your Family.

God bless the Big Blue Nation and the Keightly Family during this time of sorrow.

This past year I was blessed with the oppurtunity to truly get to know Bill. He was more than Mr. Wildcat to me and to others who grew to love him. He was a friend, a shoulder to lean on, and someone to hug when you had a hard day. He was the type of person who never knew a stranger, and who never spoke an unkind word about anyone. My last few memories of Bill are from last saturday night, giving him a hug as he left merrick, and telling him that I would see him this week. It is hard to realize that I will no longer be able to see him walk through the doors of Merrick, but I am left with wisdom and love from knowing him. We can all learn from Bill in many ways. Be a friend to everyone, never say an unkind word, stay true to yourself, joke, laugh, hug people you do not know, make others feel important. He always told me I was his favorite server, and the sweetest person he ever met. I am going to live my life with those expectations in mind. I love you my Bill, and always will

I never knew Mr. Keightley personally but I would see him on the sidelines during games. He was an always present reminder that the competitive nature of Kentucky basketball would continue just as his love and support for the program had.

He has touched so many of us throughout the years and inspired us to love our Kentucky basketball. There will never be as dedicated a fan as Mr. Wildcat. I think I will continue to look for him on the sidelines as I have always done. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

Mr. Wildcat was such an inspiration to me because even though I never met him. I was an equipment manager at my high school for 3 years and I tried to do the best I could like Mr. Keightley would do. Mr. Wildcat is not only UK basketball but he was the heart and soul of the University of Kentucky. Even though I didn't know you personally Mr. Keightley you were an inspiration to me to work hard and enjoy life. May you rest in peace.

My oldest son is getting ready to graduate in June from Carlisle, Ohio and one of the pictures that he selected last week for his graduation video was a picture that was taken with Mr. Wildcat when he attended a UK basketball camp. Our son was so happy to have his picture taken with him and he was such a happy, caring person that he didn't care at all to stand there and have the pictures done. What a loss UK must be feeling right now. At least Mr. Keightley will get to watch every UK game now. He'll never miss another one. My heart goes out to his family and the state of Kentucky. I know he will be missed. I sure hope they have a "dedicated" chair that is sitting to the right of UK's coach forever. He deserves a dedicated chair with his name on it in honor of what he contributed to the university for 40 years. I am sure they will do something similar for him because he deserves the best! Rest in Peace Mr. Wildcat, Rest in Peace!

The Wildcat bench will never be the same without him but I know he will be still be at all the games cheering the cats on! Maybe, God needed a new equipment manager and He got the best! Mr. Keightley, I know that I'm one of a thousand people that you had never met in your life before the 1996 Regional Championships in Minnesota. I met you in the lobby of the hotel were the team was staying as well. I introduced myself to you and you spoke to me as if you had known me your entire life and I vividly remember that conversation as it was yesterday. I asked you for an autograph and you said that you could do better than that and you gave a personalized autograph of yourself and had several players from the 96 National Championship team to give me their autograph as well. I thanked you at that time for your generous gift to me that I still cherrish to this day. I know that you're in a better place and that there will be no more pain for you. My condolences go out to your family, your basketball family and your wildcat family, you are truly the one and only "MR.WILDCAT"

You touched everyone that you have ever met and the ones that got to know the man called Mr. Wildcat, they indeed feel blessed. You are now part of the Heavenly team. Cawood is calling the play by play as Coach Rupp walks the side court in front of the bench. Mr. Bill is seated beside the coach in his all too familiar spot. Now there is a seat beside Coach Gillispie that is empty. As we will gather to pay you final respect in the house that Rupp built. Respect that you deserve, Mr. Wildcat. We will all look up to the Rupp Arena Rafters and Salute, Tip our hats and say goodbye as we walk by your Jersey hanging with Wildcat pride. You fell in love with Kentucky Basketball and we fell in love with you. May God Bless you and Keep you managing the equipment for his team. Until that day when we all shall meet again....We will greatly miss you Bill Keightley, we will miss you.

I became a UK fan after graduating high school in 1958 but did not get to watch a UK game on t.v. until the late 60's, so it will see odd to have to watch a game and not see the fella who must have had the greatest job in the world. The reason his longivity was so long was obvious to anyone who watched as the fondness for him was displayed by all who surrounded him. My heart go out to his and the University of Kentucky Wildcat extended family.
