The Kentucky Lottery Corporation is reporting record sales of $778 million in fiscal year 2008, which ended June 30, topping the previous record set the year before by $34 million.

The primary factor was the skyrocketing number of scratch-off tickets sales.

But lottery players should keep something in mind when buying those tickets: the odds have changed a bit. When you buy a scratch-off ticket, if you win, your prize might not be cash. It could be another free ticket.

The lottery is also lowering the risk of big losses from its Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings by reducing the number of people who can play the same numerical combination.

The lottery has found that a handful of times each year, an especially popular combination will be drawn to win, resulting in prizes that far exceed sales.

Just goes to show the dangers associated with gambling and it's addiction. The harder times get the more desperate many become. They don't look at the vast amount they've spent on gambling, but only at the small amount they win here and there. Those few dollars a week spent on lottery tickets add up to a whole lot in losses in a years' time. I've seen people who say they can't afford health insurance or something else of importance, but they still buy those tickets every week.

If the money from the lottery isn't going to go where it was suppose to when we let it come in then we need to quit playing the game.If was suppose to bring in extra funding for education(lie!!!)And what is casinos promising more lies!!!Everytime the Gov.Officals get caught telling lies they should have to pay the state an $100,they might learn how to tell the truth.

I have been playin the same pick 3 number for the last three years and it never falls the way i play it always falls box for $50.00 i myself think that the Lottery is FIXED they know what numbers are going to fall every day .

People on welfare are the ones most likely to play.Its is a volinteer taxation thing. The gov is the only ones that wins

This proves that a lottery is taxation for stupid people. Lottery sales are up and so are gas and food prices. Maybe if people spent less money on a pipe dream they could afford to fill up their gas tanks or put healthy food on the table.

If you don't mind, I just keep going to Indiana, Tunica or Las Vegas to play craps. The odds are so much better and it's a whole lot more fun.
