A Mt. Sterling woman is dead after a tragic accident in which she was crushed by her own vehicle.

It all happened at about 2:30 Saturday afternoon on Jamie Ridge Drive in Mt. Sterling. Witnesses say 34-year-old Shay Greene had pulled up to her friend's home with her friend's two-year-old son whom she often babysat. She got out of the car and while the boy was still inside, the car started rolling backwards. Authorities believe the child might have knocked the car out of the park position.

Greene and her friend's boyfriend managed to get the boy out of the car but Greene tried to stop the car. It rolled into a deep ravine across the street from the home and landed on top of her. Fire crews had to use air bags to hoist the vehicle off of Greene. She was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mt. Sterling.

My prayers go out to the family. This is two deaths in the last couple of months for the same reason. Although I don't do it myself this is a prime example of the reasons one should use the E-Brake when getting out of a vehicle.

Shay was a team mate of my sister in high school and lived down the street from us growing up. We just want say my God be with her and the family and we will keep the family and the civil city in our prayers.

Just another reason why you shouldn't leave a child alone in a car. I'm sorry that this has happened. I'm sure that there is much grief in the family. But we can't continue to leave children alone in cars.

Let's remember Shay as the loving and funny woman with the brightest smile. When we would come home, she was usually the first to find us. Aunt Sherry, I'm coming if the weather permits us to. Lil Mike, I love you, keep ya head up and take care of Aunt Sherry and Granny Mary.

@mel Location: lex Classic that you read the comments without reading the article. I guess youll reread it now that I have it here for you. "Greene and her friend's boyfriend managed to get the boy out of the car but Greene tried to stop the car." Now what part of stopping a runaway car without a kid inside do you not understand? The kid was saved but she still tried to save her car from being damaged. Thats not instinct.

Hey "A", what about the 2 year old child still in the car as it was rolling? Think it would be a good idea to try to save her friend's two year old son? Tragic it was, but preventable it was NOT to any human being who would naturally try to stop a moving car with a child in it - insured or not.

My prayers and my heart goes out to the Greene family. Shay will be greatly missed. When I was told of the accident my heart was sadden, but then I thought about how I would come home for Court Day and Shay would see me and she would just give me a big hug, smile and ask about everyone in my family that has moved from Mt. Sterling. Sherry and Lil Mike I know this will be a hard pill to swallow but God is still in control and he will never leave you or forsake you. Big Mike and Shay are now your Angels that will confront you in this time of sorrow.

My prayers are with the family. I attended LWC with her, she was a hoot.
