All over the city of Lexington, several generators have been stolen.
It has happened at businesses, and even the Urban County Government nearly lost one. Now, police want you to make sure it doesn't happen to you.
The first attempted theft happened Friday, when a crook tried to steal a generator powering a traffic light on West 6th Street.
What he didn't know is that a police officer was camping out to protect the light from being stolen. That man was arrested.
But across town off Citation Boulevard, four generators were stolen from a business. Monday, several other thefts were reported.
Police say there's some simple things you can do to make sure this doesn't happen to you.
1. If you're staying home, put it somewhere outside that's not visible from the street.
2. If you're leaving home, police recommend chaining your generator to a tree or some other object that does not move.
