An eastern Kentucky woman says it's a miracle she's alive.
A large elk, crashed through her windshield, survived the impact and was alive while inside her car.
It happened in Bell County just after dusk.
Melissa Jones was driving on Highway 221, when she saw the large animal standing in the middle of the road. It was too late to stop, and the animal ended up crashing through her windshield. Jones has several scrapes from flying glass, and a couple of stitches on a finger, but otherwise, is ok.
"I just pushed him off me and got out of the car. I don't even know how i did that, I don't even know how i got the car pulled off the side of the road, I don't even remember," said Jones.
The elk was still alive in the car and had to be put down.
Wildlife experts say while it is not mating season, the snow and ice may be pushing the elk to lower ground in eastern Kentucky.
