A Lexington woman says she got a strange phone call Wednesday to inform her mother that she had won a Mercedes Benz.
Michele Combs says she knew the call was a scam from the start because her mother passed away six months ago. When Combs informed the would-be scammer of her mom's death, they told her she could have the car; if she sent them a check for three-hundred dollars to cover the taxes.
A skeptical Combs began asking a battery of questions and outsmarted the scammers. They became so frustrated they hung the phone up on her.
Now the woman is speaking out warning others to ask lots of questions if an offer sounds too good to be true.
