A Bourbon County woman died after being struck by a pick-up truck while trying to cross the road outside of her home.

Authorities say 57-year-old Liz Pizzo was attempting to cross Jackstown Road after retrieving her mail. She was struck by a 1999 Ford pick-up truck. Witnesses say it was raining heavily at the time and Pizzo simply ran out into the road without looking.

Pizzo was airlifted to UK Hospital where she later died.

A 19-year-old man was driving the truck that struck her and authorities say he did not have a license. He was taken into custody at the scene but authorities have not yet indicated what types of charges he faces. He reportedly told authorities that by the time he saw Pizzo, it was too late to stop due to poor visibility.

Pizzo lived in Bourbon County with her husband and mother-in-law. They ran a small horse business at their home.
