Some storms are possible during the morning and afternoon on Tuesday. Damaging winds and flooding will be the main threats. With an already soaked ground, expect strong winds to easily bring down some trees.
The Poor Man's Harlan County Derby Party is marking its 39th year in existence. The party is marked by a casual atmosphere and often draws numerous Kentucky dignitaries.
But this year's festivities will have a somber undertone as those in attendance take time to honor fallen police officer Bryan Durman. Durman died Thursday night after being struck by an SUV while responding to a call.
Bill Morgan is the host of the Poor Man's party and says he expects his guests to really step up when it comes to helping Officer Durman's family. Prior to the party, some $7000 had already been raised. A silent auction was held at the party and UK basketball coach John Calipari was briefly on hand to sign commemorative Maker's Mark bottles. Seven dollars from the sale of each bottle will go to to the Fraternal Order of Police Fund for Bryan Durman. Coach Cal was also utilizing his Twitter page to encourage people to donate to the Bryan Durman Fund at Central Bank.
Prior to midnight, some $17,000 in cash donations had already been collected and results of the silent auction were still pending.
