Arrests made for school thefts in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Lexington Police have arrested two people for stealing from Fayette County Schools.

Police say Teddy Hendren and Jason Richards now face felony charges of receiving stolen property.

Police say the two men stole from a storage building outside Lafayette High School.

They call this an unusual case.

Police say things like poles from old soccer goals and bleachers, medical supplies, and even an automatic defibrilator were stolen.

"There doesn't necessarily seem to be any rhyme or reason about what they were stealing. In many cases, you have people, they break into cars, they steal electronics, they steal things that they can sell easily," said Lexington Police Spokesperson, Sherelle Roberts. "These folks, they were just taking anything."

Police say things were stolen from a few other schools as well.

We're told many of the stolen items were recovered and given back to the school district.
