PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WKYT) - The Tennessee resort community of Pigeon Forge is under siege as a raging wildfire consumes hundreds of acres in East Tennessee.

Pigeon Forge is just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and it's a popular vacation spot for Kentuckians.

Crews are still trying to contain the massive fire. It's already destroyed dozens of cabins in the Smoky Mountains. Tennessee authorities say the fire started Sunday afternoon in a single cabin at Black Bear Ridge Resort in Pigeon Forge. High winds helped fuel and spread the fire. Now more than 300 acres and at least 35 cabins have been destroyed. Twenty-five fire departments are trying to put it out.

"It's a huge fire. A large amount of resources are up here. It's been rough. It's been the roughest I've ever seen it," noted Chief Tony Watson with the Pigeon Forge Fire Department.

Authorities say around ten acres burned near Dollywood. People living in nearby cabins already evacuated. Others are being urged to evacuate right now.
