Dogs rescued from alleged puppy mill in Knox County

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- Police have charged two people with animal cruelty after finding an illegal puppy mill.

An animal rescue group took 20 dogs from the home in Knox County Thursday.

Officials say they also found the remains of other dogs in trash cans at the home.

We're told the dogs that survived are not in great health.

"Every rib is showing she doesn't have any muscle going down her spine she is underweight," said Veterinarian Keaton Smith.

The dogs' owners Curt and Patricia Burko have been charged with two counts of animal cruelty each.

We asked to talk to them at the Knox County Jail, but they said no.
