LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)-Squeals of delight followed by big splashes could be heard throughout Woodland Park as many families kicked off the unofficial start to summer.
Public pools opened Saturday for the summer, welcoming the familiar smell of sunscreen and chlorine.
"I like riding the alligators and slides," Carson Quenon, a swimmer explained after splasing around.
The Lexington Family Aquatic pools are located at Castlewood, Southland, Woodland and Tates Creek. These facilities include bath houses, concession stands, and water play areas for children 10 and under, outdoor play areas, slides, diving boards, grassy beach areas for sunning and zero depth entry/exit. Daily admission to a Family Aquatic Center is $4 for youth 15 & under and $5 for adults 16 & over. Operating hours for these facilities are Monday through Saturday 11am to 8pm and Sunday 1pm to 8pm.
Castlewood Aquatic Center
320 Parkview Avenue
Located on the north side of town, this facility’s features include a looped slide, a giant octopus and a sand play area.
Southland Aquatic Center
625 Hill-n-Dale Road
Located in the southern part of Lexington, this facility’s features include a double looped slide, extensive water play apparatuses, state of the art playground and sand play area.
Tates Creek Aquatic Center
1400 Gainesway Drive
Located next to the Tates Creek Golf Course, this state of the art facility’s features include an enclosed looped slide, play apparatuses, and a 50 meter lap pool.
Woodland Aquatic Center
190 Old Park Avenue
Located in the heart of Lexington in Woodland Park, this facility is equipped with a looped slide, interactive pirate ship, and a 3 meter diving board.
