LARUE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- A suspect involved in an overnight shooting with a sheriff's deputy has died.

Friday night, LauRue County deputies tried to stop the man, Thomas Ferguson, 38, for reckless driving, when police say his vehicle spun out of control and stopped, facing the deputy.

Police say when the deputy, James Williamson, 24, approached the vehicle, the suspect accelerated toward him.

That's when Williamson shot Ferguson in the head. He died Saturday morning at the University of Louisville hospital.

Alcohol does appear to be a factor.
