Mint Julep and Lilly recipe

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)-Mint Juleps and Lillys are staples at any Derby Day festivities and bartenders Phillip Tincher and Billy Williams from Lexington's Merrick Inn demonstrated both for WKYT This Morning.

Merrick Inn Mint Julep

2 ounces Bourbon

1 tablespoon ginger-infused simple syrup (recipe follows)

fresh mint leaves, torn or crushed

splash of seltzer

Directions: in a cocktail shaker, add ice, bourbon, simple syrup and torn mint leaves. Shake well. Pour into julep cup and serve with garnish of fresh mint leaves.

Simple Syrup:

2 cups sugar

2 cups water

Fresh ginger to taste, grated

Boil the water, sugar and ginger for 5 minutes, let sit on stove for 5 more. Then cool completely before using. For best results, let simple syrup it for several hours.

Lilly:

1-2 ounces vodka

3 ounces cranberry juice

splash of fresh lime juice

Shake the vodka, cranberry and fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Garnish with lime wedge.
