We have all been told since childhood to eat our fruits and vegetables.
As Amber Philpott found out a new business in Lexington is helping people to do just that, but not in the form you might think.
Its hip and trendy and has people bellying up for a drink.
Co-owner, Kimmye Bohannon says its not a fad, rather a really healthy choice.
At her new Lexington business customers are hooked for vegetables in bottle.
"Carrots do something in particular for us, chlorophyll in kale has healing properties its not really just the one thing that's healthy for you, its that you are able to do it in a raw capacity," says Bohannon.
Bohannon first fell in love with juicing two years ago.
In October she started the the Weekly Juicery and now has a store front that opened in late May on Old Vine.
In just less than a year she and friend Elizabeth Beal have about 100 regular customers or Juicers as the call them.
Elizabeth Beal is co-owner and the juice specialist, she's the one juicing up anything she can get her hands on.
Beal admits its all trial and error when it comes to developing recipes.
Cold press juicing takes produce like romaine lettuce and presses out all the juice, and what's left in the liquid form is all the vitamins, nutrients and live enzymes.
Beal says her most popular recipe is green lemonade, made of not just lemons.
"Romaine, kale, it has cucumbers, lemon and we sweeten all of our drinks with a little bit of Stevia," said Beal.
Served up in glass bottles, there is a variety of different concoctions all with their own health benefit.
If you like the drinks made by the Weekly Juicery, you don't have to just buy them at the store, they will also deliver right to your doorstep in Lexington.
By offering home delivery, the Weekly Juicery was able to develop a faithful following.
Bohannon is the new age milk man, or woman in this case.
She jokes that she has become known as the "juice lady."
Customers like Justin Fister of Lexington love getting their weekly delivery.
"Totally more energized, I have had it delivered now to the house for last four months. My wife says I'm not the best eater. I don't eat a lot of raw vegetables, but actually I like the taste of the juice." said Justin Fister.
Its a tall order, one that even the smallest of juicers can appreciate one sip at a time.
