OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Thieves caused thousands of dollars in damage in a matter of hours. Now police believe many of the crimes could be connected.
Early Monday morning someone broke into a Momma Joes restaurant causing thousands of dollars in damage. The front window was shattered and the restaurant's safe was wheeled out of the building on an office chair. Police say they believe those thieves could be responsible for several other burglaries in Bath County.
Witnesses told police they got a glimpse of two people driving a pickup truck.
Police say that pickup was stolen from a home in Bath County that was broken into earlier that night. The truck was discovered Tuesday afternoon with the safe still in it.
At least two other businesses in the city were broken into that night.
"In my 22 years this is the first time we've had three burglaries in one night," said Owingsville Police Chief Todd Tout.
Outside the city limits the sheriff's department is dealing with several burglaries, at least four that same night. They believe several of them are connected.
Two different car washes were either vandalized or broken into. Police say they may be close to solving those crimes.
"We do have a person of interest in custody on unrelated charges at this time," Chief Tout said.
But the other burglaries across the county are still unsolved.
Tout says if they are going to find the people responsible for the break-ins they're going to need the public's help. He asks that anyone who has information call police.
