POWELL COUNTY, KY (WKYT) -- Police say three suspects in a stolen vehicle led them on a high speed chase down the Mountain Parkway, from Clark County to Powell County.

Winchester police say it started around 5AM Saturday morning when an officer spotted a Jeep circling the parking lot of Hatfield Dodge. When that officer got behind the vehicle it sped away, leading to the chase.

Powell County Sheriff's deputies told WKYT that the chase reached speeds of 120 miles per hour. The suspects in the vehicle were throwing car parts out of the windows during the chase.

One of the suspects, Shelby Turner, spoke to WKYT's Victor Puente from jail.

"This cop gets behind us and I guess he was wanting to have a little fun and kicked it," Turner said.

Police say Turner was the driver of the vehicle, a claim he denies. During the chase the driver of the vehicle attempted to ram a police car, then crashed while trying to cross from the Mountain Parkway to Highway 15.

Police arrested Turner and took him to the Clark County Detention Center. They also detained a second person, a woman, for questioning. A third man ran from the Jeep into a nearby field.

Around noon a Powell County Sheriff's deputy saw a man walking in the area of the crash who matched the description of the third passenger. Dewey Thorpe was arrested and charged with public intoxication, but more charges related to the chase could be coming.
Shelby Turner is charged with wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, receiving stolen property, driving without a license, and fleeing from police.

Police tell us that the vehicle was reported stolen from Hazard, and they had been looking for it for several days.

Despite the charges he's facing Turner spent most of the interview joking about his situation.

"I told my momma I'd be famous some day," he said.
