Two injured in drive-by shooting outside Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Two people are in the hospital after a drive-by shooting in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police were called around 2:00 on Thursday morning to a house on Roosevelt Boulevard, off Georgetown Street. They found two victims there, a male and female, who had been shot while sitting on the front porch of a home. One had been struck in the chest, and the other in the hip.

Police say several bullets went into the home behind the victims. Several people, including two children, were inside the home at the time. No one inside was injured.

Police say they're searching for two men who witnesses said were seen leaving the scene in a red Chrysler.

Both of the gunshot victims were taken to UK Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It's the third shooting incident in less than a week in that area of town.
Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said patrols have been increased in the area, but they are also relying on witnesses to help find those responsible.

"If people really care about their community, if they care about their children, if they care about the safety of their neighborhood, they need to speak up. They need to call us, they need to keep an eye out, and they need to do their part to work with us so we can crack down on this behavior," said Roberts.
