Witness says suspected social club shooter fired at victim as she was trying to leave

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Friends of a woman shot Friday night say they saw her talking to her ex-boyfriend moments before he shot her. They say they didn't know anything was wrong until they heard gunshots.

"She was telling him 'No, we're done, we're through.'" said Isaac Williams. "He reached to grab her, she pushed his hand away and said 'Don't touch me.'"

Williams says that's when Wendell Dixon began firing at the woman. He says she ran for the door but didn't make it and was shot four times times.

"She's laying there and he's walking up to her and boom, boom, boom, and then went out the door," Williams said.

Friends say the victim had taken out an emergency protective order against Dixon after their relationship ended. Dixon drove away after the shooting. Police say he took his vehicle to a relatives house handing them his keys and walking away. They are still searching for him.

"It could have happened anywhere, it was a case to me of this young man was after her," Williams said.

Despite the crowd at the time no one else was seriously injured. A man by the door was grazed by a bullet.

Williams says his daughter was at the hospital Saturday morning visiting the victim. She was in critical condition when she was taken to the hospital Friday night but Williams says she has since stabilized and is responding to treatment.

Police say so far their plan is to charge Dixon with two counts of assault, one for the woman he shot the other for the man who was grazed. But they say this investigation is ongoing and there could be additional charges.
