GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman is dead after an accident early Thursday morning on Main Street at Kentucky Avenue in Georgetown.
Around 4:00 a.m., police say a car hit and killed 22-year-old Loretta Wallace of Georgetown on Main Street at Kentucky Avenue. Police tell WKYT a man was driving east on the road when the accident happened.
Police say Wallace was wearing dark colored clothing and the driver didn't see her walking on the road. They say the fact that there isn't a sidewalk, and the area is dark at night, played a factor in this crash.
“Any pedestrian, traffic in that area is pretty dangerous. I mean, the road is very narrow there. There's very little room for cars if they have to get over, there's just not enough room for somebody to walk on the road," says Captain Robert Swanigan with Georgetown Police.
Although the accident is still under investigation, police say that speed did not play a factor in the crash.
That stretch of road was shut down for a little more than two hours Thursday morning while crews cleaned up and reconstructed the accident.
A memorial fund has been setup to help the family with funeral expenses. You can donate at any Fifth Third bank to the "Lori Wallace Memorial Fund."
