LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Democrat Bruce Lunsford is turning up the heat in the debate on energy policy. He says Sen. Mitch McConnell misled the public by emphasizing expanded oil drilling when consumers are looking for quick relief from high gas prices.

Lunsford says you can't solve the problem by drilling.

McConnell on Thursday took to the Senate floor to accuse Democrats of doing too little to try to lower fuel prices.

Lunsford meanwhile touted an energy plan that includes opening the strategic petroleum reserve, providing a temporary gas-tax holiday and requiring oil companies to drill on millions of acres under lease.

Last week, McConnell debuted a TV ad linking Lunsford with a state law that raised Kentucky's gas tax.

Lunsford has called the ad deceitful.
