The highest unemployment rate in Kentucky is in Magoffin County.

Eighteen percent of the people in Magoffin County are unemployed. The judge executive says a big problem is local craftsmen and miners not getting enough work to stay afloat. Jackie Conley says three family members were laid off in the past few months and it is taking a toll on her family. "There are no jobs in this county whatsoever other than a grocery store, a fast food restaurant. And when these positions get filled, people have nowhere to turn."

Judge Executive Charles Hardin says, "Our employment rate is high even in good times and we've worked over the years and made some strides. We're trying to hold onto what we have right now until the economy picks up."

Hardin says no industries are looking to relocate to the area until there is a change in the national economy.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - No Kentucky county has been spared from the rise in unemployment.

A new report from the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training rates shows the jobless rate increased in all 120 counties from May 2008 to May 2009.

The report showed Magoffin County with an 18 percent unemployment rate in May, the highest in the state. Six other counties - Jackson, Trigg, Bath, Powell, Allen and Butler - had jobless rates of 15 percent or higher.

Fayette County had the lowest unemployment at 7.7 percent.

Evil Employer...Do you have a job for a college graduate? There are lots of job vacancies listed, but record numbers of people applying for each one. Luckily, I found a job thats one step up from minimum wage. I have a four year degree and apply for jobs every week and never even get an interview...Any tips?

Over 150 job listings at the state unemployment offices in Pikeville, Prestonsburg, and Hazard. AND NOBODY is working? DUUUUUUUH I got disgusted and stopped counting the job vacancies listed in the Lexinigton Herald today. Theres no jobs because people don't want to work. It's not the politicians making you not work. Its called "laziness".
