The nearly 100 laws going into effect today range from changes in booster seat requirements to having flags made in the USA.
Two of the new laws, the minimum wage increase and keeping sex offenders off of school property, has people pretty excited.

One of the new laws in effect today prohibits sex offenders from being anywhere on school property. A law that many school officials say is past due.

"It's something that we probably need to address, and then I think this is very appropriate," says Harvey Colwell, Perry County Schools Special Program Coordinator.

School officials are happy with the new legislation, but say they may have a little trouble singling out those who look suspicious.

Colwell says, "It's going to be hard to detect who is and who isn't. I mean, how are you going to determine that?"

Another law most are excited about is a pay increase for some workers. This is a move some hope will stimulate local economies.

Minimum wage workers in Kentucky will see a $.70 increase in their hourly pay. That adds up to more than five dollars in an eight-hour day. Minimum wage went from $6.55 an hour to $7.25. Businesses are optimistic about its effect on their employees.

Leila Smith, the assistant manager at Save A Lot says, "They're ready to get their raise, they're ready to come to work, and they're more enthused to come to work, knowing they're going to make more money, and not be stuck at one level."

Smith says happier employees leads to happier customers.

"It will help out business because we will be able to employ more people, and that way people don't have to wait, like they do."

More business leads to a stronger economy.

Other laws in the legislation include a regulation on American flags.
The legislation states the flags must be made in America.
Also, child booster seats in cars are now required for children under 7 years old, between 40 and 50 inches tall. That will take effect on July 15.

You can find all KY laws online, and other states and federal. Just make sure it has .gov or its not official. I'm sure there is also a way to get them from the capitol somehow. Bill: all of these are protection laws so if anything they help us out. Some though, i agree, have been pretty bad lately. Here is the KY site: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/
