LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Beechwood won its 11th state football
title, behind a dominating first half.
The Tigers scored two touchdowns before intermission, then held
off Hazard to win the Kentucky High School Athletic Association
Class A championship game 14-7 in front of 3,316 fans on Friday.
Junior quarterback Matt Rigdon rushed for a touchdown and passed
for another, and senior running back Nieco Teipel ran for 128 yards
and caught Rigdon's TD pass. Friday's championship win was the
second in a row for the Tigers (14-1).
Beechwood overcame four turnovers to capture its third title in
five seasons.
Senior quarterback Tyler Olinger scored the only touchdown for
the Bulldogs (11-4), but threw a late interception that sealed
Hazard's fate.
