FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - University of Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks is calling for Kentucky coaches to be trained in how to recognize symptoms of heat stroke and how to deal with it.

Brooks urged the Senate Education Committee on Monday to consider mandating such training.

Lawmakers in Kentucky have been weighing legislation intended to protect high school athletes in response to the death of Louisville teen Max Gilpin, who died of complications from heatstroke in August three days after collapsing during football practice.

Gilpin's coach, David Jason Stinson, has pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide in an unusual case of a coach being charged criminally in the death of a player.
