Caverna's getting off to a bad start in Class A, District 2 play this week - and the Colonels won't even take the field.
A flu outbreak has forced Caverna out of school the rest of the week and fear over possibly spreading germs has led the Colonels to forfeit their game Friday night at Kentucky Country Day. The Bearcats will officially win the game 2-0.
Colonels coach Nick Stephens told WBKO via telephone on Wednesday he was disappointed to have to forfeit but that he and KCD coach Tim Green agreed it was best. The forfeit was made especially sour for Stephens because his team beat the Bearcats 31-14 last season.
Stephens said he hopes to resume practice with his team Tuesday. He said the school's still planning on playing its home district game with Louisville Holy Cross on October 9th.
