250 ... Breathitt County Bobcats head coach Mike Holcomb reached the win total on Friday as his squad beat Letcher County Central 35-14.
Holcomb has seen players come and go. all bobcats though, as he's only been at Breathitt County. Once working with now UPike head coach Dudley Hilton, Holcomb knows he's in unique company. But he's more excited it was win number two on a young season.
Well I think it's just a real nice thing for our program. I've been the head coach here since 1983. All those wins have come at Breathitt County and I've had a lot of players and a lot of great assistants and a community and school administration that supports athletics. You know it's something that everybody did and nothing I did," says Holcomb.
In Holcomb's 29th season. He will join the "Who's Who" of the Kentucky high school football coaching ranks. Dudley Hilton (345) tied for the state record with Bob Schneider of Newport Central Catholic. Philip Haywood (338), Paintsville great Walter Brugh (280), and Harlan County's Tom Larkey (262)...
Holcomb currently has a career coaching record of 250-92.
