LIMA, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio sheriff's deputy says a 3-day-old infant died hours after she was attacked by a family dog while sitting in a swing.
Chief Deputy Jim Everett of the Allen County Sheriff's Office in Lima (LY'-muh) says the baby girl suffered a head injury at her grandmother's home near Beaverdam on Thursday.
Everett says the mother put the infant in the swing in to prepare to feed her and was a few feet away in the kitchen with the baby's grandmother. He says they heard a whimper and found the infant injured.
They took her to a local hospital. She was flown to a Toledo hospital, where she died.
Everett says the dog appeared to be a pit bull and is in the dog warden's custody.
