Crime Stoppers: Man shot while sleeping inside car

Police think someone who fired shots at a car, may not have known they hit a man who was sleeping inside it.

A man was shot in the face and arm around five in the morning on December 4th. Lexington Police say he was down on his luck and borderline homeless. The victim was sleeping in the driver's seat of his car, which was parked on Haley Pike, right above I-64.

"He was asleep when he heard gunshots, and then realized he'd been shot. When he got up, he noticed several taillights going down Haley Pike away from him," said Det. Robert Sarantonio.

Police say the man was rushed to the hospital and will make a full recovery. But with no leads in the case, they need help from the public.

"The victim had no other past that would make us think someone would do this to him. Every sign leads us to believe the person who did this might not have known that a person was in the car sleeping when they shot him. We're hoping now that they know someone was in the car, got shot, and they'll call Crime Stoppers," said Det. Sarantonio.
