Crime Stoppers: Debris on tracks put communities in danger

Investigators are looking for the person who put debris on a Lexington train track.

Norfolk Southern Trains pass through the tracks off Lisle Road at the Fayette-Scott County line dozens of times a day. For the second time in just months, someone put debris on the tracks causing a problem.

"The debris was hit by a passing train, causing severe damage to the engine," said Special Agent Thomas Sharp with Norfolk Southern

Sharp says on April 15th, a large metal object was in the tracks and caused a massive hole in a fuel tank of a train. The train spilled about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel between Georgetown and Wilmore. Back on September 15th, someone left debris in the tracks, causing 27 cars to come off the tracks. Investigators with Norfolk Southern are asking for the public's help.

"Any information we can get leading to the arrest of a subject, and for this kind of incident to stop. For people to realize it is a hazard, not only for the crews of Norfolk Southern, but for the public in general," Sharp said.
