Crime Stoppers: Driver kills pedestrian, leaves scene

A driver hit a man walking on the road and left him for dead. Now police need your help to find the suspect.

The accident happened in the early morning hours of March 24th along Leestown Road, near West Hampton.

"Most people driving down the road, you're not looking 15 feet off the road for someone laying on the grass. It wasn't until it was lighter that someone finally saw him," said Lt. Chris Van Brackel.

Police say 57-year-old Gary Akers had been hit by a vehicle from behind, hours before anyone spotted him. Based on the tire tracks, police believe the driver knew they had hit something.

"At some point right here, the thought process kicks in, and they think 'I've hit something, I have to get out of here,'" says Lt. Van Brackel. " We don't have any other information on the car or driver. we're hoping for help from the public."

Anyone with information can contact Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020 or 1-877-970-2020. You can also leave tips online.
