Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I'll Have Another is headed to Japan for stud duty. Owner Paul Reddam told the Daily Racing Form Friday that a deal has been reached with Shigeyuki Okada's Big Red Farm on the island of Hokkaido to stand I'll Have Another beginning with the 2013 breeding season.
In recent weeks, Reddam held conversations with stud farm owners in the United States and abroad. He told the Daily Racing Form the Japan offer was far superior. "It was in the range we were looking for," he said. "Kentucky wasn't anywhere close to where the Japanese were.
I'll Have Another was retired June 8 because of a tendon injury. He did not run in the Belmont Stakes in an attempt to sweep the Triple Crown.
The Daily Racing Form said I'll Have Another will leave for Japan in August.
