Curry announces retirement after 2012 season

Posted: 9:17 AM Aug 15, 2012

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia State football coach Bill Curry is retiring after the 2012 season.

Georgia State associate athletic director for communications Allison Georgia confirmed Curry will announce his plans at a news conference on Wednesday.

The 69-year-old Curry also has coached at Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky.

He is 9-13 in two seasons at Georgia State. He led the Panthers to a 6-5 record in their inaugural 2010 season. Georgia State fell to 3-8 in 2011.

Georgia State announced in April it will move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2013 as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. With Curry's announcement, the school will make that move with a new coach.

Georgia State will play in the Colonial Athletic Association this season.

Curry's overall record is 92-118-4 in 19 seasons.
