MIDDLESBORO, Ky (WYMT) - The city of Middlesboro will use grant money awarded thanks to backing from the Kentucky Highlands Promise Zone to hopefully cut costs for businesses in town.
Issac Kremer with Discover Downtown Middlesboro said they are getting about $4,000. The funding comes from the Department of Energy.
They will use the money to study how shops in town use energy.
From there, they will send the data off and within a year, folks with America Saves will offer suggestions to help cut their costs. That group is part of a joint project of Preservation Green Lab and the National Main Street Center.
"If we can help businesses save money with their bottom lines that means over time we're going to be able to attract more investment and create more jobs in this area," Kremer.
This is part of a two million dollar grant aimed at making downtowns across the country more energy efficient.
