HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - What exactly is a meteor?

A professor at Hazard Community and Technical College that specializes in astronomy tells WYMT a meteor is a piece of debris that enters our atmosphere. But once it hits the ground, it was called a meteorite.

Professor Jeremy Wood said while things from space collide with the earth all the time, the video shown on WYMT that was taken by a woman in Jackson County is rare.

"The one that I saw the video of was a special type of meteor called a Bolide. A Bolide is an especially bright meteor that you can even see in the day time," said Wood.

Wood said most meteors break off from comets.
