MOUTHCARD, Ky (WYMT) - An 87-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital thanks to the heroic action of a Pike County man.
John Hunt tells WYMT he was walking along a road in Mouthcard when he heard something out of the ordinary.
"I was listening to music on my iPod but I was afraid I would get hit by a car by not hearing it and as soon as I turned the volume down, I heard somebody screaming," said Hunt.
Hunt said he then looked over the embankment and found Eunice Miller stuck in a creek near the road.
"Her body was soaked from head to toe," said Hunt.
So he jumped into action and pulled her from the water. He said he then ran down the road to find help.
"If someone needs help you help them, you do not do it just because you want to, you do it because you have to," said Hunt.
WYMT caught up with John and his mom Angela Hunt at work. Angela Hunt said she could not be more proud of her son.
"I am glad to know that I did something right in raising him that way," said Angela Hunt.
Eunice Miller still is not home from the hospital yet. But after visiting her, the Hunts believe she will recover.
"It feels great to know that I could actually help somebody and I am glad that she is going to make it," said Hunt.
Hunt added he is not a hero; instead, he was just in the right place at the right time.
