Grammy winning songwriter honored in Pike County

UPDATE: 6-11-14 11 p.m.

Grammy winning songwriter and Pike County native Josh Osborne performed with two other artists at Pikeville's Hilton Garden Inn Wednesday evening.

There was an $10 entrance fee at the Songwriter Show, where he performed with Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally.

All of the proceeds went to Pike County Schools' K.I.D.S. initiative. Osborne said the show was a great way to give back.

"Well you know in an area like this there are so many kids who don't have the supplies, food, or clothing they need for school," said Osborne. "We just thought this might be a great opportunity."

SHELBIANA, Ky (WYMT) - You probably know that U.S. 23 is the Country Music Highway. But you might not know that Pike County native Josh Osborne is well on his way to leaving his mark on the country music scene.

Dozens gathered at Shelby Valley High School on Wednesday to celebrate the accomplishments of one of their own.

"You all came out for this and I cannot tell you how much it means to me," said Osborne.

Everyone from former teachers to state and local officials reminisced about Osborne before presenting the Grammy winning songwriter with an honor he said he never expected.

"It is one of those things that in the moment, it is all happening so fast, it is pretty unbelievable," said Osborne.

His name, Josh Osborne, will now greet drivers passing by "Country Music Highway" signs all across Pike County.

For the songwriter, best known for his work on the Gammy Award winning song "Merry-Go-Round" by Kacey Musgraves, he feels like his dream has finally come full circle.

"The Country Music Highway literally and figuratively took me to Nashville because it the music itself made me want to write country music and then I had to get on 23 to get to Nashville. So really it just means everything," said Osborne.

Later on Wednesday, Josh Osborne and two other song writers will hold a show to raise money for Pike County schools. That will take place in Pikeville.
