HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - Big Blue Fever is in full effect here in the mountains.
On Monday, local businesses in Hazard started getting pumped up for the NCAA National Championship game.
Just hours before the Cats tip-off against the UConn Huskies, UK fans are buying some last minute gear from David Napier, who owns Sports World.
"With each win, it is just picked up and picked up. We have had 50 some phone calls this morning. What shirts have you got coming in," said Napier.
Napier tells WYMT that if Kentucky wins, his shop plans to have National Championship shirts for sale by Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
"I think that people really, really come together and love rooting the Cats on," said Napier.
That is the truth at the Pantry Shelf in Hazard. Owner Susan Brotherton said she bought matching UK tops for her staff.
"I cannot even really get any work done today. I need to be banking and doing other stuff and instead I am out buying shirts," said Brotherton.
But at the Big Blue Smokehouse, Manager Geraldine Abner is all about this big blue distraction as they prepare for a watch party.
"We have trivia games that we play with the customers. We get everyone involved. We have cheering sections, blue against white. You name it, if it is a Cats thing, we do it here," said Abner.
All the fans see the game having the same outcome.
"Cats by five," said Napier.
Brotherton could not agree more.
"If we can play like we played the other night, I think we can win," said Brotherton.
If the Cats win, it will be their ninth National Championship title.
