WHITESBURG, Ky (WYMT) - Friday evening, folks packed the First Baptist Church of Whitesburg to remember 24-year-old Mike Hogg, who was stabbed to death early New Year's Day on the streets of Whitesburg.

Hundreds stopped by to share memories of the former Letcher County Central athlete. Friends greeted Hogg's family with tears and loving embraces.
Many at the visitation said they were not surprised at all by the turnout. Hogg's mom, Connie, attributed that to his loving personality.

"He always acted like the big brother to everyone, the protector, you know? He just loved to have fun. He loved life," said Connie Hogg.

On Thursday, James Huffman and Patrick Smith, the two men arrested in connection to Hogg's death, pleaded not guilty. Huffman faces murder and assault charges. Smith is charged with complicity to commit murder, criminal mischief, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
