LITT CARR, Ky (WYMT) - Education officials in Knott County want to send a strong message that bullying is not okay. To do that, they are holding an event to raise awareness.

On January 24th, students, families and community members are invited to "Be a Hero Knott County". The event starts at 6 p.m. at Knott County Central High School and admission is free.

Carr Creek Elementary School Teacher Toni Mullins tells WYMT informing the public about bullying and self esteem issues is critical.

"We want to be at the forefront of this issue because we love our children and we want to empower them. They are our greatest resource so we want to give them all the awareness and resources they need to stand up against these issues," said Mullins.

America's Got Talent finalist and eastern Kentucky native Jimmy Rose will perform live at the event.
