HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - A Perry County woman tells WYMT this will be a birthday to remember. On June 6th, Tara Bailey turned 27-years-old. But instead of getting gifts, she decided to give them instead.
Even at work, Tara Bailey's approaching birthday was in the back of her mind.
"I did not really know what I wanted to do for my birthday but I had looked on the Internet and I saw random acts of kindness that people had done before," said Bailey.
So she started thinking of ways to give back to her community.
"I thought I will do 27 because I am turning 27," said Bailey.
In time, she came up with some random acts, everything from putting away shopping carts at Walmart to paying for a stranger's lunch in downtown Hazard.
"Somebody can make or break your day. They can make you sad or they can make you happy. I mean a perfect stranger could just give you a compliment and just make your day ten times better by being nice," said Bailey.
She documented her journey through pictures and later posted them to Facebook. She said it was a part of her small attempt to get others to pay it forward.
"It has inspired some people but I just hope it inspires more," said Bailey.
Bailey gave doughnuts to local firefighters, handed out flowers as folks drove by her and even left a present for her mailman. In addition, she baked cookies for her coworkers and cleaned up a cemetery near her home.
She said she plans to carry out random acts of kindness every year on her birthday.
