WILLIAMSBURG, Ky (WYMT) - If school has not started back up for you or your kids yet, enjoy the summer while you can! That is the advice from a group of elementary school students in Whitley County who went back to class on Monday..

We have all felt the way fourth grader Pierce Bowlin does about returning to the classroom at Pleasant View Elementary School.

"I want to go back to bed," said Pierce Bowlin.

The first day of school is tough on everyone. Whether it is making it to the bus on time or finding the right classroom, teacher Christie Bowlin tells WYMT her kids need some time to adjust.

"They do not want to work. They like to sleep in," said Bowlin.

However, this year they did not get quite as long to do that.

"It felt very short. It flew by and I am sure a lot of the kids felt the same way," said Bowlin.

Sixth grader Dalton Davenport could not agree more.

"It was like I just left school and then the next morning I had school. It was like nothing," said Davenport.

Thanks to a harsh winter and some continuing construction on campus, kids are back at school a few days earlier.

"With the winter we are hoping not to miss too many days. But if we do, it kind of gives us a little bit of lead way," said Bowlin.

Even though kids like Whitney Owens might not appreciate having assignments this soon, they all say that before long they will be excited to be back at school.

"Work. It takes too much effort out of me," said Owens.

Next school year, students at Pleasant View Elementary will have a new building to call home. Staff hope to break for summer in early April so their current building can be torn down.
