WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has done an about-face
on the release of hundreds more photos of U.S. troops abusing
prisoners.
He's sending government lawyers back to court in a bid to block
on the release.
The president says these are not as sensational as the Abu
Ghraib prison photos, and their release won't add to public
understanding.
The president says the photos might, in fact, inflame
anti-American opinion and put U.S. troops in greater danger.
ACLU attorney Amrit Singh, who argued the case in court, says
the administration's opposition "makes a mockery of President
Obama's promise of transparency and accountability."
Obama counters the public already knows plenty about the abuse,
which took place long before his watch.

With the freedom of speech comes great responsibility. You can not yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater starting a panic rush to the exits. You cannot joke that you have a bomb before getting on a plane. We have seen examples of when radical Muslims are offended by words or pictures. People die. If you knowingly release something that will hurt innocent people you have some responsibility as to whether to release it or not. Freedom of speech does not mean--throw everything out there and who cares what happens. Freedom of speech can also mean you have the freedom to be silent.

regardless of your opinion on wars or Obama or Bush or whatever, we should all support freedom of speech -- if the media wants to release these photos to the public, there should not be anyone trying to stop it. We still have first ammendment rights, even if we hate the content of the speech. I don't seeing these kinds of photos and they will indeed further hurt the US reputation, but suppressing speech hurts us even more.

Maybe the president has at least done ONE thing right finally!
